OUR STORY.

Where it all began

Founded in the UK in 2007, The Exchange Lab is one of the pioneers of programmatic advertising. The goal was to revolutionize the industry and connect brands with audience across devices – at scale. 

Growing from a start-up, we now have offices around the globe and were acquired by GroupM/WPP in 2015 for our talent and market-leading technology, Proteus.

Today, we pride ourselves on the talent we develop and bring to the marketplace, along with how we service our clients as an independent programmatic specialist. 

Here’s a look back at where we’ve come from and some of our major milestones. 

2007

It all started with a passion for technology and an idea of how to simplify the programmatic advertising landscape to ensure marketers get peak performance for their budgets.

The Exchange Lab launches in London, England

2011

The Exchange Lab expands to North America, opening an office in Toronto

2012

DataLab, the first iteration of The Exchange Lab's multi-platform technology launches, enabling like-for-like analysis of buying patterns across the programmatic marketplace.

Proteus is Born

Offices launched in New York

2014

Ranked #21 in the Sunday Times Tech Track 100 of the fastest growing private tech companies

2015

WPP's GroupM acquires The Exchange Lab as its lead programmatic specialist (December)

2016

The Exchange Lab wins Best Ad Ops Team at The Drum U.S. Awards

2017

Proteus is reengineered to automate the processing of data at scale, enabling global capabilities.

2018

The Exchange Lab continues to make digital marketing easy to understand by delivering clear reporting that allows marketers to adapt and improve with every campaign.
